Who has the edge?
It seems it has become an annual rite of camp in Columbia: Who's going to punt. Even when the Tigers have brought back a seemingly established punter, competition seems to ensue for the job.
Adam Crossett and Matt Hoenes went back and forth for a couple of years. When Hoenes left, many thought Jake Harry would take Crossett's job. That didn't happen, but now with Crossett gone, many are wondering if Harry can hold off a trio of walk-ons to secure the starting punting spot.
So where do the Tigers stand after four spring workouts?
"I think what you do is you just go out and evaluate and focus on getting better like any position," Gary Pinkel said. "I don't give any position a scale. I just don't do that. You've just got to work hard and I expect to be pretty good."
Both Harry and Pinkel say the junior has made solid strides since last fall. But the job is by no means sewn up.
"We've got some other guys, young guys, they've got some good legs too," Pinkel said. "The young guys have got a chance, they're certainly working hard and it's part of the deal."
