Gimm ready to come back home
Having been born in Iowa and with plenty of family living near the Quad Cities, in some ways the Hawkeye State is still considered home for tight end Jonathan Gimm. Next month, Gimm will make the move from the Houston area to Iowa City to start his college career with the Hawkeyes. He talks about the move, what a dream come true it is for him, and much more.
Q: First, how much high school do you have left?
GIMM: We have our graduation on Thursday, May 29.
Q: What's it been like as you wrap up the last few weeks?
GIMM: It's been pretty nice. I've just been kind of hanging out with friends and stuff before I leave for Iowa. I'll be leaving here pretty soon towards the end of June.
Q: Is that to get up there and get some workouts in before camp?
GIMM: Yeah, to get a little head start, a little jumpstart.
Q: What are some of your goals going into the summer?
GIMM: Just to kind of keep up a little bit because it's probably going to be a big transition from high school to being a freshman in college, but I think I can do it. I've been working out and working pretty hard. I want to go up there and hopefully get straight into learning the system because you can be as strong and fast as you want, but if you don't know the plays you can't do anything. So I want to get up there and learn as much as I can. Then I want to meet all of the guys and make sure I'm cool with everybody and meet my roommate and just kind of hangout and get into the workouts.
