Jackson ready for run at state title
Navasota wide receiver Brandal Jackson was one of, if not the, best players at last month's Texas State small-school 7-on-7 tournament held in College Station. The 6-foot-1, 178-pound Jackson routinely registered multiple touchdowns and acrobatic catches in leading the Rattlers to a berth in the championship game. Now, he faces a different type of challenge as one of the school's most-talented squads ever goes through two-a-days in pursuit of a different kind of state championship.
As a junior, Jackson reeled in 39 passes for 755 yards (19.4 yards per reception) and eight touchdowns using a combination of his speed and 38-inch vertical jump. However, he feels like he did it on his physical ability and now he is looking to improve the remainder of his skills during August's scorching heat.
"I'm really trying to work on my routes," said Jackson. "It's just simple things. Most guys can run deep routes because it's about running. I'm trying to do something different with hitches and slants. I'm trying to come out at the same speed that I go into the route. I'm trying to do a better job of selling the route."
