Thursday's practice getting defensive
Both the AM and PM practice sessions were dominated by a stellar performance by the defense. While you never truly know how good UCLA's defense will be until they line up against another opponent, but one thing is for sure, the Brigham Harwell and Brian Price will undoubtedly make for tough sledding for just about any offense.
Price has been absolutely dominating the last two days at practice blowing up play after play. When you are as strong as UCLA appears to be inside it makes it just that much easier to be a good defensive team.
During the morning practice, which UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel said was a learning session, the back seven locked it down during the seven on seven drills. If this continues it will make the front four even more lethal.
The defense looked how it is supposed to look and now it is time build on yesterday's practice by paying this way every time. It is now about being consistent for the defense.
Offensively they are still a work in progress. They have had their moments during camp, but still need to cut down on mistakes. In the following interview, Neuheisel describes perfectly where the offense is heading into the scrimmage.
"It was a defensive day," Neuheisel said. "I thought they did some great things especially towards the end in the ones versus ones scrimmage and it is good to see they responded some difficulties over the last couple of days and that's what you want. You want competitive guys and they answered tonight. So now it will be interesting to see how the offense will respond that's kind of the nature of camp.
"You keep slugging like Rocky in the first movie, you keep slugging the meat and eventually hopefully you are ready for a bout and that's where we are right now. Tomorrow we will kind of prepare for Saturday's scrimmage and hopefully get them of their legs for about 36 hours and get after it again next Monday."
