Defense dominates final camp scrimmage
MORGANTOWN--With the season opener against Villanova exactly two weeks away, the WVU football squad conducted its final scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday afternoon. Although the offense failed to reach the end zone during the session, head coach Bill Stewart still saw plenty of encouraging signs as his team prepares to shift to its in-season practice schedule.
At the top of the list of things Stewart found impressive was the play of kicker/punter Pat McAfee and the Mountaineers' special teams units. After missing two field goal attempts early on, McAfee rebounded to nail a number of difficult kicks, including a 49-yarder that he converted despite being subjected to heavy pre-snap taunting from the defensive personnel on the field.
