Freshman running back Jermaine Thomas found himself playing a role during the Wake Forest game -- that of spectator -- that he hasn't played in a very, very long time.
"That was the first time I think that has ever happened to me since I played flag football," Thomas said. "It was just an experience to go through. I was waiting on my name to be called."
Thomas tied a school record for rushing yards in a freshman debut with 91. But against the Demon Deacons, he never left the sideline. Thomas made sure he stuck close to running backs coach Dexter Carter during the game, as sort of a reminder that he was ready to play, but it didn't help him enter the game.
