Ohio RB taking his time
Mike Farrell
Rivals.com Football Recruiting Columbus (Ohio) Walnut Ridge running back Brandon Rice admits that he was on the verge of making a decision a little earlier in the recruiting process.
However, some advice from a coach and former high school recruit caused him to take a step back and evaluate all of his options again.
"At one point I was thinking I was about ready to make a decision," Rice said. "I talked to our quarterbacks' coach, Tony Lowery. He played football at Wisconsin, and he told me there was no reason to make my decision now. He told me to take all my visits and have fun with it, so that's what I'm doing."
Largely because of that advice Rice now plans to take all five of his official visits. He hasn't set much up yet, but he's planning a visit to one of his favorites for the near future.
"I've been talking to all the coaches from MAC schools that have offered me," he said. "I've also been talking to Syracuse lately. I know they have a coach that will be coming here to Columbus in the next few weeks and they'll probably watch one of our last games.
"I plan on going down to see the Miami (Ohio)-Kent State game. I've been there but I just want to take my mom down to see the campus and let her find out what it's like there. I do plan on taking all five of my visits, though."
So far Walnut Ridge has played seven games. Rice is frustrated about how things are going but he's not throwing in the towel.
"We just lost our Homecoming game last night to a team that had no business beating us," he said. "Last year we put up 60 points on them and they've only won one game this year. They beat us 13-6, so things aren't going too well over here.
"We've just got to get all the people who still want to play together and turn it up. We need to find the people who really love football."
Rice estimates he has 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground this year.
