Tide hangs on to take down A&M
Alonzo Gee had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead the Crimson Tide to a sloppy 64-56 win over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Tuesday at Coleman Coliseum.
Free throws were the key to victory for the Crimson Tide (4-2). The Bulldogs committed 25 personal fouls and sent the Crimson Tide to the line early and often. At the stripe the Tide shot 23 of 32 while the Bulldogs shot 11 of 12.
The Crimson Tide never trailed in the game and opened up its biggest lead at the 4:50 mark in the first half with a 32-16 score. The Bulldogs however clawed their way back to within five at the half by going on a 11-0 run to put the score at 32-27 going into the locker room.
In the second half the Bulldogs pulled within two with 2:22 left in the game with a three-point basket by Cornelius Hester. On the Crimson Tide's next possession Demetrius Jemison had a key rebound and put back to put the Crimson Tide up 58-54.
The Crimson Tide hit six of its last eight free throws to seal the win. Hester and Casey Cantey scored nine points a piece for a the Bulldogs who shot just 29 percent from the field for the game.
The Crimson Tide will host the Ragin Cajuns of Louisiana Lafayette on Sunday at Coleman Coliseum at Noon.
