DE Custis a BC lean?
Columbus (Ohio) DeSales defensive end Davon Custis has already taken four of his five official visits and he will not have to wait long to take his fifth. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound prospect will make his decision shortly after that last trip and right now there is one school to beat.
Custis is currently ranked the No. 24 strongside defensive end in the nation by Rivals.com. He put together an impressive offer list over the course of his senior season but has since narrowed things down to three schools -- Boston College, Northwestern and Stanford.
With a list like that it should come as no surprise that academics will be an important factor in Custis' decision. He has already visited Boston College and Northwestern, and his trip to Stanford is scheduled for January 8.
"Yes, I'm still going (to Stanford)," Custis said in a recent phone interview. "It's still down to those three and I'd say I'm still leaning to Boston College. I just want to take my last visit.
"I just think of all the schools I've looked at so far (BC) is looking like the best fit for me.
"Coach (Ben Sirmans) has been talking to me and he's just telling me about how the school is and what their plan is for me. He's basically been telling me everything."
Custis said he will try to watch Boston College and Northwestern in their bowl appearances in the coming days.
"I haven't seen any bowl games so far but I'm those to try to watch those and any others I want to see," he said. "I'll enjoy watching but they're not going to affect my decision."
Custis has hosted coaches from all three schools for in-home visits in the month of December. He stayed close to home during the Christmas season.
"I'll probably make my decision a week after the Stanford visit," he continued. "That should be the second week of January, or so."
DeSales posted a 13-1 record on the season before losing 14-10 in the semifinals of the state playoffs.
