Smith staying patient
Blair Sanderson
HawkeyeReport.com After emerging as a Division I prospect following his senior year, cornerback Troy Smith is staying patient this month as he waits to see what happens with the recruiting process. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Smith, who hails from Indianapolis, has at least two more visits scheduled before signing day. This weekend, he will go to Toledo and up next is Ball State. Both schools have offered.
Smith had a big senior year at Indianapolis' Pike High School with eight interceptions, including two that he returned for touchdowns. That type of production to go along with his 4.40 speed continues to draw more and more recruiting interest.
Iowa, who brought Smith in for a December visit, remains in contact, as does Indiana and Purdue, among others. As he waits to see what happens with the Big Ten schools on his list, Smith knows he already has some good options in the MAC if the bigger programs decide not to offer. Currently, he plans to stay patient and make his decision close to signing day.
