Gamecocks first in on 2011 stud
The Gamecocks are off to a quick start in the class of 2011, extending offers to multiple talented prospects. One of those offers is to Anson (NC) Wadesboro LB Stephone Anthony.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Anthony could be one of the best linebackers in the Southeast in his recruiting class.
During his sophomore campaign, he racked up 80 tackles, 7 interceptions, and 4 sacks. Jay Graham took notice and offered the talented defender a scholarship, the first school to do so.
"Playing for coach Steve Spurrier would be a great opportunity,"he said. From what I know, the university seems like it's in a good area. I've never been there."
The Tarheel native says he ran a 4.52 forty-yard dash recently. He currently holds three other offers and talked about the other suitors.
NC State: "I went to NC State for a basketball game. It's a cool place to be."
Clemson: "As far as I know, the coach seems to like me and seems really interested."
Virginia Tech: "They seem really interested too and my cousin is Barquell Rivers (Anson alum)."
Other programs could be on track to offer Anthony.
"Michigan State, East Carolina, and North Carolina, Wake Forest are showing interest," he said.
Anthony will be looking for two factors when deciding where he wants to go.
"I just want to see if the school fits me and if I have a good chance of starting there or not."
Some summer trips are on the horizon for the athletic linebacker.
"I have plans to go to Virginia, Wake Forest, Clemson, and North Carolina," he said.
Anthony added that he might wait until Signing Day 2011 to decide.
