Special teams focus
New special teams coordinator Brian Schneider made a big impact on the team in the spring, and that trend is continuing in fall camp. With new, quicker drills, increased reps, and depth chart battles, there has been a renewed excitement around special teams.
"We are just trying to switch it up a little bit and find different ways to get the job done," Schneider said about some of the new drills he has introduced.
One such drill is a crowd favorite, where Schneider throws large bags at players who are attempting to field a punt.
"It is just a distraction for those guys catching the punt," he said. "We try to put them in the worst situation so it becomes easy when we get to a game. We do a bunch of different stuff with distractions and trying to get their feet under the ball, just to get confidence in catching the ball every time."
Return men like Travon Patterson enjoy the new challenge presented by the drills.
