Heating things up during week 2
After a day off the Oregon State football team resumed daily double drills Monday morning. After a few chilly practices the Beavers were greeted to sunny skies a warm termperatures as they held a somewhat spirited practice on the Prothro fields.
David Pa'aluhi, Howard Croom, Darrell Catchings, Keynan Parker, and Cameron Collins all sat out for various reasons. Catchings suffered a fractured hand during blocking drills the true extent of the injury won't be known until tomorrow. Coach Riley and Catchings are both optimistic that he will be ready to go in three to four weeks, but Damola Adeniji and true freshman Markus Wheaton are taking the reps with the first team and Coach Riley said they would be working to get Wheaton up to speed quickly.
Wheaton may be hard to keep off the field this season even before the injury to Catchings. Riley mentioned in his post-practice comments that he is highly considering not redshirting the burner from Arizona. While he still has some work to do in learning the playbook, his athletic ability and speed are impressive.
With Mitchell and Collins taking it easy today, Josh LaGrone took reps with the first squad and looked good, even intercepting an errant Sean Canfield pass. Joining LaGrone was Suaesi Tuimaunei who looks to have sealed one of the safety spots. Freshmen Dax Dilbeck and Jordan Poyer saw time with the second team today as well.
