Quarterback Cousins sets visit date.
Quarterback Kirk Cousins is one of those prospects that may just get a big reward for his hard work and patience. SpartanMag.com caught up with the Holland Christian star last night and he gave us some details about his recruitment.
"Yes, things have really picked up the last few weeks. I went to Toledo earlier this week on an official visit and really enjoyed it there. I have an official visit with Western Michigan this weekend and I met with Coach Enos from Michigan State earlier today."
What are the Spartans saying?
"Coach Enos said that they want me to come up for an official visit on the weekend of the 13h and 14th. He said he showed my film to Coach Dantonio and he liked what he saw. He wants me to come up and meet with him. I am glad Coach Enos was kept on staff at Michigan State, otherwise they may have not looked at me."
Have the Spartans talked about a scholarship offer?
"Coach Enos said they will make that decision when I visit. Toledo and Western Michigan want me to make a decision before then, but plan on waiting until I hear from Michigan State. It is in the Big Ten, it is close to home, I like Coach Enos and they have a good program in what I want study." (Cousins is a 4.0 student)
So would it be safe to say that the Spartans would be in good shape if they offered?
"Yes you could definitely say that. I have always liked Michigan State. Coach Enos has said they want to take two quarterbacks this year so that could play a roll. If they go out and sign a 4-star quarterback, that may effect my decision, but I know I would have to compete no matter where I go."
Are any other teams involved in your recruitment?
"Yes, Colorado has offered me a grey-shirt. They already have two quarterbacks for the class of 2007 including one junir college guy, so they want me to enroll and then go on scholarship next January. That way I would be in the class of 2008. If I don't make a decision after my Michigan State visit, I will visit there the next weekend."
Cousins had an outstanding senior year for Holland Christian. He threw for 2100+ yards and 28 touchdowns. He led Holland Christian into the playoffs for the first time in school history. He was named All-Area Player of the Year, 1st team All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-State.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Cousins is a 3-sport athlete for Holland Christian. Right now he is running the point for the basketball team which is currently undefeated at 3-0. This spring he will be staring on the baseball diamond.
SpartanMag.com will be sure to keep in-touch with Cousins as this situation unfolds.
New Quarterback Prospect?
SpartanMag.com has learned form two reliable sources that Michigan State has been in contact with Nick Fanuzzi.
Fanuzzi is a 3-star dual-threat quarterback from San Antonio, Texas. He gave a commitmet to teh Mimai Hurricanes last springm, bt might be taking a look around.
The fact that the Hurricnaes have been actively courting Robert Marve despite Fanuzzi's commitment is an odd sign.
