Horns looking to add another
The Texas Longhorns basketball program has a commitment from talented Port Arthur Memorial combo guard J'Covan Brown in the 2008 class. With height, length and play making ability off the dribble needed in the program, the Longhorns are looking for a second play maker to go with Brown in the 2008 class. Midland junior college guard Tyrone Appleton has drawn the attention of the Longhorn staff and is thinking about visiting Austin.
"I'm considering Texas, Kansas, Iowa State, Kentucky and Indiana," Appleton said. "I visited Kansas last weekend. It went really good. I just liked the visit overall. I got along with the coaching staff and the players. I don't have any other visits set up at the moment. We're trying to get things set up,"
Appleton has already taken three official visits. The 6-3, 180-pound guard officially visited San Jose State on October 26th, Iowa State on December 17th and most recently, Kansas on January 25th.
The Kentucky Wildcats appear likely to get an official visit, leaving the Longhorns and Hoosiers as the two programs in the running for a final official visit. The reserved Appleton says he likes everything about the Texas program.
"I just like the program. I've seen them play and like everything about them. I may not set up anymore visits until after our season," Appleton said.
Appleton is currently helping lead Midland JC to a 20-3 record after winning the 2007 NJCAA national title.
As a freshman, the 6-3 former Virginia Tech signee averaged 14 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.9 steals. In 2008, the Gary, Indiana native is averaging 12.5points, 5.5 assists and 1.8 steals.
When it comes to what Appleton is looking for in a four year program, it's simple.
"Somewhere I can just play right away. That's it." Appleton said.
