Video: Lansing's own Henton shines at Izzo Shootout
EAST LANSING - The Michigan State coaching staff spent a lot of time watching talented in-state sophomores-to-be during last weekend's Tom Izzo Spartan Shootout in East Lansing. And local standout LaDontae Henton was one of the Class of 2011 standouts that the Spartan coaching staff kept a close eye on during the two-day event.
Henton and Southfield point guard Carlton Brundidge were the two most impressive sophomores at the Izzo Shootout. A star on the Michigan Mustangs 16-and-under summer team, Henton plays a similar role for Lansing Eastern.
At the Izzo Shootout, Henton made Eastern one of the more dangerous teams in the field. Lansing Eastern upended defending Class A state champion Saginaw, which is in the midst of trying to replace a pair of high major standouts with the graduation of Draymond Green (Michigan State) and Daniel West. Saginaw remains a formidable opponent. But the Trojans did not have enough firepower to knock off Henton and Lansing Eastern.
