Neuheisel talks about scrimmage
There were enough good things in the scrimmage for Rick Neuheisel to remain relentlessly optimistic. Thinking about relentless that is exactly how the defense performed yesterday and Neuheisel pointed that out to a group of media after the scrimmage. Neuheisel also saw things he liked about the offense, too.
Neuheisel: "The scrimmage was a success. Anytime you are sitting as the head coach and you come out with one slight ankle, you are excited about it. We got a lot of plays more than I probably anticipated.
"Defensively I thought we did a great job against the run early. Offensively that raises your nervousness in terms of being able to run, because obviously given where we are with the offensive line and the inexperienced quarterback you would like not to put all the pressure on the throwing game so it would be a huge deal for us to find a way to run the ball going into the Tennessee game with some consistency, but I'll know heck of a lot more when I watch the tape.
"I thought our guys played hard. They are dead legged and all that kind of stuff, soft grass, but we made some plays so I am looking forward to the next two weeks."
