Moore scored 15 second-half points last week as Purdue rallied from a one-point halftime deficit in a 67-56 victory over Iowa. Four days later, Moore again sparked a second-half surge as Purdue whipped West Virginia 77-62 in a battle of unbeatens.
Purdue had a 37-32 halftime lead when Moore opened the second half against WVU by sinking a jumper. On Purdue's next possession, he was fouled while attempting a 3-pointer. Although he made only one of the three ensuing free throws, he got the rebound off his last miss and delivered a one-handed dunk that sparked a 14-2 run.
Moore's second-half flurries make him the new No. 1 shooting guard in the latest edition of the Rivals.com College Basketball Power Rankings, which measure the nation's top performers at each position.
"We knew it was very important to come out in the second half and come out strong," Moore said after the West Virginia game. "They had come back in the first half and had a little bit of momentum. We knew they were going to come out rejuvenated, so we figured we needed to come out and match their intensity."
The other newcomer atop the power rankings is Syracuse's Wesley Johnson, who rose to the No. 1 spot at small forward. Johnson had 20 points and 19 rebounds in a victory over Seton Hall and 19 points in a loss to Pittsburgh.
Kentucky point guard John Wall, Notre Dame power forward Luke Harangody, Kansas center Cole Aldrich and Kansas coach Bill Self remained atop their respective positions. Wall also maintained his status as the nation's top freshman.
This represents the last Wednesday edition of the power rankings. A new version of the power rankings will run every Tuesday for the rest of the regular season.
The current rankings considered performances through Monday's games. The rankings measure overall career performances as well as the results of the past week.
