Williamson joins the Spartan family
Michigan State picked up another big commitment for the class of 2011 today when 3-star recruit Roger Williamson of Dayton Dunbar High School in Ohio publically announced his intentions to sign to become the newest member of the Green and White.
Earlier tonight Williamson held a press conference at 8Ball and Wings in Dayton, Ohio. At the event he stated that he will be playing his college football for Head Coach Mark Dantonio and the Spartans.
Williamson has been a prospect the Spartans staff has had as a top priority for quite some time. Williamson camped at Michigan State this summer and was one of the top performers there. SpartnaMag.com included Williamson on our camp Hot List as players that stood out.
On one play in particular, he made a leaping interception on a ball intended for All-American WR DeAnthony Arnett. Williamson was repping as a safety and Arnett had easily beaten his man. The throw from the quarterback floated a bit and Williamson undercut the route and made the pick. It was the type of play you expect high-level players to make.
Williams is rated as a 3-star recruit and the #59 wide receiver prospect in the nation by Rival.com He is also ranked the #33 player in Ohio for the class of 2011. Williamson selected the Spartans over a host of scholarship offers including ones from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas, Northwestern, Indiana, Cincinnati, West Virginia and Maryland.
Williamson becomes the 16th member of the Michigan State recruiting class of 2011. Though he is listed as a wide receiver by Rivals.com, Williamson will likely play in the secondary for the Spartans. Williamson becomes the 3rd of what will likely be 4 secondary commitments. The Spartans hope that Doran Grant will fill the final spot.
