October 29, 2010Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez mentioned a few bye week position switches during his Monday press conference, but he saved a few for his Thursday night coaches' show.
Rodriguez said there have been several other moves besides defensive tackle Will Campbell to offensive guard and guard Quinton Washington to defensive tackle. Free safety Cam Gordon is now at "the safety up tight," with former hybrid and true freshman Carvin Johnson moving to free safety and true frosh Ray Vinopal, who had already been practicing there, likely to get more reps starting Saturday night at Penn State.
"That was a process," Rodriguez said of Gordon. "He was able to do that, and that gives us some flexibility."
Freshman safety Marvin Robinson, who had been playing behind Jordan Kovacs, worked at linebacker and will help Michigan in nickel packages, Rodriguez added, noting he's also "moved the D-line around a little bit, as well."
The Wolverines will keep Campbell and Washington at their new positions for now.
Rodriguez also mentioned that freshman running back Stephen Hopkins would get more carries, adding that sophomore Teric Jones could also play Saturday at Penn State.
