November 9, 2010While Marcus Morris receives a majority of the attention, and rightfully so, twin brother Markieff Morris is primed to have a monster junior season. In fact, an argument could very well be made that Markieff, the 6-foot-10, 245-pound center from Philadelphia, Pa., might emerge as the second best player on the team, right behind his little brother.
Name: Markieff Morris
Previous outing: In KU's first exhibition game of the year, a 30 point victory over Washburn, Markieff Morris scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds in 22 minutes of action. Against the Ichabods, Morris was 5-of-8 from the field, 2-of-2 from behind the arc, dished out three dimes, had three steals and swatted two shots.
Up next: Morris will look to build on his performance when No. 7 ranked Kansas takes the court against Emporia State on Tuesday night. For Morris and his teammates, it's the final tune-up before Friday night's regular season opener against Longwood.
The Hornets don't have a player taller than 6-foot-7, so don't be surprised if Markieff Morris has a career type outing on Tuesday night.
Remember, this is the same player that hit 10 three pointers in one game while prepping at Apex Academies.
Kansas Head Coach Bill Self on Markieff Morris:
"Markieff's good. He's better than what any of us have seen him play his first two years just because he will have more opportunities. We're going to see a big jump in him. If you're going to vote on a guy to have the most improvement this year from an appearance standpoint, it would be Markieff."
