Crawford named Big Ten POW
Drew Crawford (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) has been honored as the Big Ten Men's Basketball Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday. It is the second such honor of his career. He also earned the award Dec. 14, 2009.EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern junior forward
Crawford is the first Northwestern player to earn the honor since John Shurna on Dec. 20, 2010.
Crawford was named the MVP of the Charleston Classic after leading the Wildcats to a perfect 3-0 record and the tournament title. He averaged 24.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 57.4 percent from the field, including 52.4 percent from 3-point range.
Crawford helped NU overcome a 14-point deficit against LSU by scoring all 17 of his points in the second half while grabbing a game-high eight rebounds. In a semifinal win over Tulsa, he scored 20 of his game-high 28 points in the first half.
Crawford wrapped up the tournament by hitting 11 of 15 field goal attempts and scoring 27 points in a victory over Seton Hall in the championship game. He posted at least 17 points in a half in three times in the tournament.
Through four contests, Crawford ranks second on the team with averages of 20.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He leads the squad with a .558 field goal percentage and a .500 3-point field goal percentage.
Northwestern (4-0) returns to action at noon Friday as it hosts Stony Brook at Welsh-Ryan Arena. It's Take a Kid to the Game Day with each paid adult allowing two kids in the 8th grade and under to get in free. Tickets must be purchased on the day of the game (season ticket holders are an exception).
