Handle FGCU's defense
Florida Gulf Coast will bring a unique challenge to Nebraska tonight in the versatility of its defensive schemes. The Eagles don't run one or two base defenses - they run almost every style you can think of at various points in a game. By switching between zones, man-to-man and full-court presses, FCGU forces opposing offenses to have to constantly adjust their offensive approach. Nebraska is going to have to lean on the experience of its backcourt to recognize when the Eagles mix up their defenses and get the Huskers into the proper offense.
Make your shots 2
There's one way to beat any defense Florida Gulf Coast throws out there, and that's by hitting jump shots. Nebraska can't get off to another start like it did against Creighton, where it scored just 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Huskers need to come out firing from the opening tip take control of the game right away. Against a team that gave the like of TCU, Loyola (Md.) and Maryland all they could handle, the last thing NU wants is to let the Eagles hang around.
After dropping three of its past four games in frustrating fashion, there's nothing Nebraska needs more than to come out tonight and put together a complete effort and get back on the winning track. Obviously the Huskers need a win more than anything, but they could give themselves a much-needed confidence boost by putting up some big points and dominating FGCU defensively. With just four non-conference games left before the start of Big Ten Conference play, Nebraska has to get things turned around in a hurry, and tonight could be a perfect opportunity to do so.
Junior forward Brandon Ubel on not letting the season slip away:
"I don't think we're going to let things slip away. We're a veteran group. We've all kind of been through this. We know it is a long season and there's still time, but we can't afford any more slip-ups, especially in non-conference play. We dug ourselves in a hole, but there's a long time left to get ourselves out of it."
Senior guard Caleb Walker on still having time to turn the season around:
"I think the positive about it is we get a chance to fix it, and we're the only ones who can do it. We had three games that we definitely could've won that went down to the wire, but we didn't. So we can't hang our heads down. We have move on from it and try to get better."
