August 26, 2012SpartanMag.com's Rico Beard has confirmed with Detroit Cass Tech head coach Thomas Wilcher that Cass Tech offensive line recruit Dennis Finley committed to Michigan State on Sunday.?
"Dennis has great upswing," Wilcher told Beard. "He has a lot of assets that you just can't coach like his height and his speed. He has everything you need for an offensive linemen. I'm sure with a couple of years of coaching in the MSU program, he will become an even better player with pro potential."
Wilcher texted the MSU coaches with news of Finley's commitment on Sunday.
"Michigan State is a place where I can feel comfortable for the next four or five years," Finley told Beard. "I like the coaching staff. The staff reminds him of his staff at Cass Tech, very family oriented."
Finley, who had offers from Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, Syracuse, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and others, made the commitment official on Sunday. Beard reports that Finley had confided with others earlier in the weekend that a commitment was imminent.
Finley was ranked the No. 27 player in Michigan in Rivals.com's preseason in-state rankings in June, prior to his strong showing at the Sound Mind Sound Body Camp, and subsequent scholarship offers from Michigan State and Ohio State.
Finley helped lead Detroit Cass Tech to a 25-18 victory over Birmingham Brother Rice, on Friday, in a clash between the defending Division I and Division II state champions.
Finley earned the respect of Brother Rice linebacker Jon Reschke, a fellow Spartan commitment.
Reschke offered this Tweet on Finley's commitment, Sunday:
"Just got a huge commit out of Dennis Finley!!! He played an incredible game yesterday, can't wait to be on the same team with him! #GoGreen - J_Reschke33
