December 6, 2012Toledo senior linebacker Dan Molls has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team. Molls becomes the first Academic All-America selection for Toledo since Lance Moore in 2004.
Molls leads the country with an impressive 166 tackles. He holds a 3.61 GPA in Exercise Science.
"I could not be more proud of Danny Molls," said Toledo head coach Matt Campbell. "He is everything you want in a college football player. He has a total commitment to academics and athletics. He is a leader on our football team, both on and off the field, and is great role model for our younger players. He is very deserving to be called an Academic All-American."
"It's a great honor to be named Academic All-America," said Molls. "To be included with some of the best football players in the country is very humbling."
Molls joins Northern Illinois defensive lineman Alan Baxter as the only two MAC coaches named First Team Academic All-American. The Second Team includes three MAC players, one from Central Michigan and two from Northern Illinois.
Toledo has had players named to the Academic All-America lists eleven (11) times. They are Tad Wampfler (1980 2nd Team), Mike Matz (1983 1st Team), Ken Moyer (1988 2nd Team), Craig Dues (1995 1st Team and 1996 2nd Team), Todd France (2000 2nd Team and 2001 1st Team), Chris Tuminello (2001 2nd Team and 2002 2nd Team), Lance Moore (2004 1st Team) and Dan Molls (2012 1st Team).
