December 17, 2012The Wolverines won two more games last week - a 67-39 demolishing of Binghamton and a 81-66 win over West Virginia in Brooklyn, N.Y. - to extend their perfect start to the season to 11-0.
And sophomore point guard Trey Burke was a big reason why. Against the Bearcats and Mountaineers, Burke combined to score 46 points (27 against West Virginia and 19 against Binghamton) on 20-of-28 shooting. He also posted 13 total assists to just one turnover and nine total rebounds.
For his efforts, Burke was selected as the Big Ten Player Of The Week.
His game against West Virginia was particularly inspired.
He set a career-high with 12 field goals, shooting an incredible 75.0 percent (12-of-16), while dishing out eight assists and not turning the ball over at all.
This is the second Big Ten Player Of The Week award of Burke's career and the first he has received this season.
Through 11 games, Burke leads the Wolverines with 18.0 points per game. Burke ranks third in the Big Ten in scoring, behind Ohio State's DeShaun Thomas (20.3 points per game) and Illinois' Brandon Paul (18.8 points per game).
Burke is also averaging 7.0 assists per game and 3.3 rebounds per game this season.
