March 27, 2013Michigan will host Cincinnati at The Big House during the 2017 season the athletic department announced today. The two schools have never met on the gridiron before.
"Ohio is a state that all our sports programs recruit heavily, and the Cincinnati area has been terrific recruiting territory for Michigan Athletics through the years," said Brandon, the Donald R. Shepherd Director Athletics.
"We are excited to host the Bearcats and their fans at Michigan Stadium and Crisler Center in the coming years and look forward to making a visit to Cincinnati for basketball."
The date of the game will be Sept. 9.
Additionally, U-M will engage in basketball home-and-home series with the Bearcats between the 2016 and 2018 season. The two have met four times on the court before with Michigan 3-1 in those matchups.
Michigan has unveiled its 2014 and 2015 schedules and three of four non-conference opponents in 2016.
However, these schedules may get blown up with the addition of Rutgers and Maryland to the Big Ten in 2014. The conference is expected to announce this spring new divisions and the likelihood of nine league games (and possibly 10).
Cincinnati, meanwhile, will become the ninth opponent since 2000 that Michigan meets for the first time in program history, joining Tennessee in 2001 (bowl game), Texas in 2004 (bowl), Northern Illinois in 2005, Ball State in 2006, Appalachian State in 2007, Connecticut in 2010, Mississippi State in 2010 (bowl) and Virginia Tech in 2011 (bowl).
