July 19, 2004Main Event to tip-off July 22nd
A total of 300 teams are slated to participate in Hal Pastner's Main Event in Las Vegas (Nev.) from July 22nd through July 25th. Joining the American teams in the 17 & under brackets will be Australia's No. 1 team Victoria Metro, eight teams from Canada, five from Hawaii, and three from the US Virgin Islands along with many of the top Nike teams from the AAU circuit.
The tournament headquarters will be at Durango High School with several of the top games being played there and at UNLV's McDermott Center. A weekend pass can be purchased for $25 with the tournament reaching its climax on Sunday with the championship game.
Top teams to watch out for
Several of the top Nike teams will be in attendance trying to win the Main Event championship. Friends of Hoop, Team Texas Elite, Portland Elite Legends and the D.C. Blue Devils are four top seeds to keep an eye on.
Addition teams who could make a run at the title
Pools A, B, C, D and E are "power pools" and each at least two teams who could make things interesting during the tournament. Watch out for the Houston Hoops, Belmont Shore, Metro Hawks and Victoria Metro squads.
17 & under loaded with stars
Here are some of the top 17-under teams participating in the Main Event who boast several prospects ranked in the Rivals150:

Portland Elite Legends-(Kevin Love, Kyle Singler, Brian Morris)
Metro Hawks-(Tyrell Biggs, Jonathan Mitchell)
DC Blue Devils-(Kevin Durant, Tywon Lawson, Eric Price)
15 and 16 & unders division also strong
There is also a very strong field of 16-under and 15-under teams participating in their own divisions. Leading the way in the younger age brackets will be the No. 2 ranked player in the class of 2006 Brandan Wright, who will be playing with his Murfreesboro Stars team and join the Georgia Stars, Team Texas, St. Louis Eagles, and King James Superstars to compete for the championship.
