May 9, 2006With the words "I'm going to be going to Kansas" South Oak Cliff forward Darrell Arthur put an end to one of the craziest recruiting stories of the last several years.
The announcement of the Jayhawks over Baylor and LSU was a bit of a surprise to many across the nation, and even Arthur declared things might have been different if the announcement occurred 24 hours earlier.
"I just went with my heart," Arthur said. Baylor, probably yesterday if I would have signed I would have went to Baylor."
In the end it was that last night of sleep that sealed the deal for Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks.
"I told my mom that I had a dream about Kansas ,so that's probably where I'm going to go, and I told my coach and he was surprised by it," the South Oak Cliff forward said.
"I prayed real hard about it last night, and then I saw a vision like in my dream I was dreaming about Kansas the whole night so I just woke up with it."
The decision was hard for the Parade All-American and it only grew harder as he grew closer to each coach. Arthur saw a lot in each program and as shown above was close to making the call to Baylor. However, in the end Kansas was just too good of an opportunity to pass on.
"Baylor is an up and coming good program and they have some good players coming in like Demond Carter and some good players that are already there," Arthur said. "I just liked their coaching staff. They have a family environment and I'm sorry that I couldn't go there but I'm just going with a hard coach and someone that can stay on me all the time."
In the end Arthur made the choice that he felt was best for him and now is looking forward to matching up against former South Oak Cliff teammate and current Baylor Bear Kevin Rogers.
"It's going to be fun it's going to be a lot of competing going on," Arthur said. "They've got a good team too, so it's going to be tough."
