October 14, 2006 Cal commit Shane Vereen of Valencia (Calif.) High showed why he is one of the most talented backs in the state as he exploded for 359 yards and 6 touchdowns against Golden Valley on Friday night.Valencia crushed Golden Valley, 58-7. Vareen's yardage and touchdown total was a career best. At 1-5, Valencia had been off to its worst start since the school's first year of varsity football in 1995. No other Valencia team had started off worse than 1-2 until this season. "It's a big relief to win," Vereen said. "Hopefully, this will get our spirits up and on track to where we need to be." The 5-9, 170-pound, 4-star recruit--who runs the 100m in 10.6 and was a state finalist in that event--committed to Cal back in late August. He had offers from all of the Pac-10 schools. |
