January 29, 2007MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin senior forward Alando Tucker was named co-Big Ten Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Tucker averaged 21.5 points and shot 73.9 percent from the field (17-of-23) to lead the Badgers to a 2-0 record last week. It is Tucker's second weekly honor from the conference this season and fourth of his career.
Tucker opened the week by scoring 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting in UW's 71-58 win over Michigan on Wednesday. Yesterday at Iowa, Tucker exploded for 27 points on 11-of-14 shooting in the Badgers' 57-46 victory. It was his 10th 20-point performance of the season. He scored 17 of his points in the first half when he was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field. Tucker shared the award with Ohio State's Greg Oden, who averaged 18.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in OSU's two wins last week.
Tucker currently ranks second in the Big Ten in scoring with 19.6 points per game. He is also among the league leaders in rebounding (4.9 rpg.) and field goal percentage (.491). Tucker has led Wisconsin to a 21-1 record, the best start in school history. The Badgers, who have won 17 games in a row, are 7-0 in the Big Ten for the first time since 1914.
