February 7, 2007Ontario (Calf.) Colony High School athlete Omar Bolden, the No. 31 overall prospect in the state by Rivals.com, has signed a Letter of Intent with Arizona State after turning down scholarship offers from USC, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon State and many others.
The 5-foot-11, 200 pound Bolden, who is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 7 all-purpose back in the country, is being recruited by the Sun Devils as an athlete, and it appears likely he will end up as a cornerback.
Bolden took an official visit to Arizona State on the weekend of January 26, and following that trip it appeared the Sun Devils were in a close battle with Oregon State for his services.
A week later, however, USC coach Pete Carroll extended a scholarship offer to Bolden, and the the All-CIF Central Division Player of the Year took an unofficial visit to the school that turned into an overnight official visit.
Bolden's friend, Norco (Calif.) linebacker USC commit Jordan Campbell reportedly lobbied for Bolden's services, but the Sun Devils had already emerged as the leader, and nothing happened to change his mind in recent days.
One of the fastest, most explosive athletes in the 2007 class, Bolden has been clocked at 4.35 seconds (electronically) in the 40-yard dash, and he rushed for 2,003 yards and 26 touchdowns. Defensively, he had 80 tackles, two blocked punts and one interception.
