Greenville (SC) J.L. Mann athlete J.T. Floyd is one of SCVarsity.com's top players for the Class of 2008, and despite being an early commitment for the Tennessee Volunteers, the upstate two-way starter continues to get offers. This week, he saw two offers layed on the table for him - one from the Big Ten and one from the ACC.
"Michigan offered me on Tuesday," said Floyd. "Coach Cambell made the offer. And then today, NC State gave me an offer."
Floyd, who plays cornerback and wide reciever for the Patriots, was excited about the Michigan offer because the Wolverines told him they like him on both sides of the ball.
"I like being a playmaker on the offensive side of the ball," said Floyd, "but I really like the challenge on defense of going up against top athletes and having to shut them down."
The 5-11, 180 pounder says he loves press coverage best. "I like to be able to get up on the receiver and get my hands on them early and try to dictate where they go."
Floyd was offered by South Carolina first, during a football camp just prior to his junior season, but committed to Tennessee early this past season. When asked if the new interest from other top programs will make him re-think his early decision, he was hesitant to answer quickly.
"I think as long as Tennessee holds to what they told me, that's where I want to be," said Floyd, who says the Vols told him they would only bring in two defensive backs in this class.
This coming weekend, Floyd will be in Columbia for the State Qualifier track meet at Lower Richland High School. He runs the second leg of the 4x100 meter relay team. After track, J.L. Mann will begin Spring practice on May 7th.
He will also be attending the SCVarsity.com All-State Football Combine on May 12th.
