SAN ANTONIO - While the East scrimmage on Wednesday was known for its hitting and physical nature, the West scrimmage was a showcase of skill and power. Wide receiver Greg Timmons led a potent West offense with three touchdown catches. The following are the top performers for the West on Wednesday.
West Team Hot 11 - Wednesday
5-11/196, Dallas (TX) South Oak Cliff
Brent has been overshadowed a bit by some of the other defensive backs on the West squad this week but he has been solid overall. On Wednesday in the scrimmage, Brent was all over the field. He broke up a potential touchdown pass on a post pattern and had an interception as well.
6-2/244, Corona (CA) Centennial
Burfict started off the West scrimmage with an interception for a touchdown on a poor pass by Allan Bridgford and continued his stellar play by making some nice reads and playing his usual physical brand of football.
6-4/318, Mansfield (LA) Mansfield
Davenport is a monster in the middle and he collapsed the pocket numerous times in the scrimmage. He would have made at least a couple of tackles for a loss and he re-directed the running backs on a couple other plays. He was a force all day.
ATH Adam Hall
6-4/195, Tucson (AZ) Palo Verde Magnet
Hall has been improving at wide receiver all week long and had a solid scrimmage highlighted by a nice touchdown catch over Cliff Harris who has been hard to beat all week. Hall showed off his excellent body control and his ability to adjust to the football in the scrimmage.
CB Cliff Harris
6-0/165, Fresno (CA) Edison
Despite being beaten by Adam Hall for a touchdown, Harris had another strong showing on Wednesday. He nearly had an interception on one play and made a nice shoestring tackle for a loss on another. While the offense got the better of things on the day, Harris was solid in coverage throughout.
DE Nick Kasa
6-7/245, Broomfield (CO) Legacy
Once again, Kasa was all over the field for the West defense. He had numerous quarterback hurries, was in the right position at the right time against the run and had success against D.J. Fluker despite giving up 50 pounds. Kasa is a heady player who is as technically sound as any defensive linemen at this event.
QB AJ McCarron
6-4/189, Mobile (AL) St. Pauls
McCarron was accurate in the scrimmage and threw the prettiest pass of the day to wide out Patrick Patterson on a timing pattern in the end zone. On the play, McCarron stood in against a fierce rush and lofted the ball over Dre Kirkpatrick into the awaiting hands of Patterson for a touchdown. McCarron had the most zip and accuracy on his passes for the West all day.
6-3/280, Lufkin (TX) Lufkin
McFarland was very active during the scrimmage and provided a strong push up the middle. His quickness was on display as he continually shot the gap and got into the offensive backfield. McFarland also collapsed the pocket a few times on pass plays.
WDE Alex Okafor
6-5/232, Pflugerville (TX) Pflugerville
Okafor was finally able to show off his pass-rushing ability in the scrimmage, getting off the ball fast and around the corner. He chased down a few plays from behind and hurried the quarterback and numerous occasions. However, it was his presence against the run and read and react ability that impressed the most.
6-2/185, Sulpher Springs (TX) Sulpher Springs
Rollison struggled with his accuracy all week but he was much more settled during the scrimmage. He had two nice touchdown passes during live action and his extra gear when running away from Alex Okafor to escape a sure sack was very impressive. His dual-threat ability is his strength but on Wednesday it was his arm that led the offense.
WR Greg Timmons
6-3/191, Aldine (TX) Eisenhower
Timmons was the offensive star of the scrimmage, continuing his stellar play from earlier in the week. He had three touchdown catches against the West defense showing off strong, sure hands and deceptive speed. He's the best route runner on the West team and it showed.
