June 22, 2009 Michigan is off to one of its quickest starts in recruiting that we can remember, securing commitments from 15 prospects in the Class of 2010 already. However, U-M is not the only school racing to the finish line ? 12 programs currently boast double-digit commitments ?Texas, like it has so often before, leads the nation with 19 verbal commitments, each one hailing from the Lone Star State. Because of its success in-state and the relatively high ranking for Texans, the Longhorns will likely rate among the top five classes when Rivals.com team rankings are released in the coming weeks. Of the 11 other programs with double-digit commitment totals so far, five have a higher per-recruit star-value average than Michigan: Florida, Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma and Washington. But those five have also secured pledges from 24 three-star recruits (the bane of every U-M fan's existence) with 10 prospects that have no star ranking whatsoever. In fact, every program listed here (which includes five schools that finished in the Rivals.com 2009 Top 10 Team Rankings) with the exception of Texas has accepted a commitment from an unranked recruit. The point? Every school, and every fan base, has something it can beef about. There is no perfect commitment list out there (I'm sure if you try you can even poke holes in UT's). There are still 7+ months before Signing Day and much can, and will, happen.
