mark me done as saying that "It would really help if the kid just packed up and left on his own" is a bad, bad sentiment.  We recruited him, he accepted, he's a Michigan man now and he is welcome to stay and be a member of the team so long as he has eligibility as far as I am concerned.  And he might actual improve over his career - Sauer certainly did.  But if the coaches decide they need to use a scholarship for another goalie in 2013 or 2014 (thereby having 1 less for a skater), so be it.

And options are being considered. Problem is it's too late for 2013, and it's borderline too late for 2014. But I know Red doesn't want to go out with a whimper because of poor goalie play. The other problem is that in his 28 years, U-M has never had two goalies on full scholarships and they're not about to run Rutledge out the door. It would really help if the kid just packed up and left on his own.
