With the improved play of Racine and the disappointing showing of the Swedish goalie prospect, is Michigan definitely going to sign a goalie this year? The vast majority of the top prospects have already committed. I would hate for them to commit a goalie scholarship to someone who is not an upgrade over Racine. I would rather they wait a year where the pool is bigger.
If they cannot upgrade a goalie, I would love for them to pursue the 6'6" former Hotchkiss forward, Tyler Hill. I have no idea if there is interest on either side but Michigan has done well with Hotchkiss players and he is the top NHL prospect not committed.
Michigan has its eye another prospect but wants to see how he performs during his team's postseason. He's been impressive during the year and he'd be an upgrade over Rutledge for sure and would at least give U-M a solid netminder to compete with Racine (though you're right, if Steve can do this consistently, he's the No. 1).
Lots of variables going on right now, but regardless of what happens with goalie recruiting, expect Michigan to go after a top talent in the 2014 class.
