up with a 2-1 overtime victory over Alaska to take a 1-0 series lead.  Lake State and Michigan each won the first games of their best 2 out of 3 series.

Out-shot 35-15 ... no problem.

Goaltending is the great equalizer, and I thought our goaltending would give us a chance.

Problem is, I think we're going to need more than 15 shots on goal. We had six after the first period, so over the final 43 minutes we only had nine shots on goal.

Now let's see if we can win a 2nd game in a single weekend - something we haven't done all year.

This was MSU's first post season victory since 2008 (that's in the NCAAs or CCHA playoffs). MSU hasn't won a playoff series since 2007.

Well, to get that second win- at least you don't HAVE to sweep Alaska.  Having two chances means a lot.

Well - I was thinking the opposite.  We at least beat WMU once this year.  We were basically run over by ND in all 4 games, 2 of which were only 3 weekends ago.

This loss knocked Alaska out of the tournament in the latest bracketology, I didn't even know there were in the tourney till a couple days back.  Anyway they are in big trouble wrt the tourney, two more games with MSU will hurt the RPI, and who knows they may not even the series.

RPI gets adjusted if you win a game and your RPI drops.

They'll only get hurt in the RPI if they lose - like they did last night. My gut tells me they need to make it to the Joe now. Had they swept us, they might have snuck in with the right combination even if they lost in a 3 game series to Western.

I would think you guys would too - Western can't score.

MSU went 1-1-1 against Western this year.

But I think Michigan could beat either of those teams - the only team I thought would beat Michigan in a best of 3 right now is Miami. You guys finished high enough to avoid them regardless of what happens. If you face them in a one and done - anything is possible.

And that is why the shootout point was so big! No chance of going to Miami in round 2. It won't matter if you guys finish off Alaska, but I didn't want any part of Miami in Oxford.
I think M could definitely beat WMU. Notre Dame would be tough. At Yost the games were really close. At ND it was less so, though I still felt like Michigan played with them. I'd be much happier in Kzoo.

Still a mountain to climb. I'd love to see them drubbing NMU out of the rink tonight and get things cranked up for a tough series next weekend.

When will we know who we play next weekend, and what it is contingent on?

Who UM plays is dependent on the MSU-Alaska series, if MSU wins, then UM plays WMU, if Alaska wins, UM plays ND.  MSU won the first game, but with Alaska winning 3-0 now, there could be a game 3 so may not know till tomorrow.
