He wasn't unanimous, which is nuts, and leads me to believe he won't get first-team all-conference, even though he probably deserves it. Oh well, Bigger snub was Nieves not getting All-Rookie. Kid is second in the league in freshman scoring and third in freshman goals.

I agree, pretty damn strange that Nieves didn't make the all rookie team.  Of course we may be biased, but I would take him over pretty much any other freshman forward I saw out there this year.  While it took him a bit longer to get going I like Copp as well, maybe not for all rookie team, but becoming a pretty good physical and opportunistic player.

chances  post-season awards.  Nieves is -6 which is probably a "team" number more than an indication of individual defensive weakness.  (OK, Trouba is -8, but he had 10 G and 25 pts for a D-man and was always out there against the opponents' top 2 lines.)

The All Rookie teams at F and D should have been unanimous in my opion.

Forwards
Barber - Miami
Nieves - Michigan
Lucia - Notre Dame

Defense
Trouba - Michigan
Morrison - WMU

Goalie
Team Miami

I can see why Trouba was not unanimous.  While he was great at scoring all season- it took a while for him to really be an effective defensman.  While he was spending time trying to lay out other players, they were skating around him, and scoring- which is why he's a leage top scorer, and yet has a -8 rating.  Thankfully, he has improved quite a bit on the defensive side of things- so when you combine that scoring, his amazing ability to pass the puck, and now his defensive play- if he stays, he'll be quite the player on our team.  Based on his last 1/4 of a season, he surely deserves to be one of the CCHA MVPs.

Nieves is interesting.  Again, it seems as if it's taken 2/3-3/4 of a season to really start seeing him shine.  But that shine is oh, so very bright.  Put an ok 1/2 half, good next 1/4, and great final 1/4 to one of the leages bottom teams, and you see how he could be looked over.

Seriously- all of these snubs would be more than ok if both of them were named on the all CCHA tournament team.  And there's only one way that will happen.
3/12 8:28 AM | IP: Logged It makes sense that it took Boo a little while to get going. He was playing prep hockey before this year (with a very brief stint in the USHL). I'm sure there was an adjustment period.

It was a crime for him to be left off the all rookie team. The kid was 1 point away from being top 5 in conference scoring, amongst all players. I'm sure the kid on Alaska is fine, but he was like 47th in conference scoring or something. I know there's more to being a good forward than points, but I doubt that kid is Carl Hagelin.

Whatever, I just hope we get to keep Boo for awhile longer. The Rangers got another steal. In my eyes, on Trouba is a more sure - thing pro on this team.

We've known that he had unbelievable speed, but did you see that power move to the net that drew a penalty and led to Copp's ppg on Saturday? Or that bomb he put off the post? Man. They get him in the weight room this summer and he's going to be an absolute beast next year.
