There has been a lot of speculation on this board and others that Clare's absence from the line up was due to issues other than injury. Something about being suspended and if I have read other threads correctly he really wasn't expected to be back next year.
I just read through a Daily article which included some Q&A with coach and one of his responses the Daily quoted Berenson as saying that Clare should be able to step in and be one of the top 5 defensemen next year.
That sounded an awful lot like Berenson was expecting Clare to be back and expecting him to be able to make a significant contribution. Now maybe I'm reading to much into that, it was just a one line thing thrown in at the bottom of his thoughts on defense, mainly centered on Merrill and Trouba.
That said is there any definitive information on Clare or is just speculation?

If one of Spath's other posts, he mentioned about Clare returning for his senior year if he plays by "Michigan's rules".
Not sure I get this one. There should only be one way, not sure what leeway he has as a 5th or 6th D-man with no meaningful impact on defense or offense. I believe Red had a long leash with some of his players this year (more talented, longer leash), and not sure how much the coaches stepped in or relied upon Treias, K Lynch, Moffie and Bennett to resolve the issues.
The composition of the D could be very vulnerable next year. Serville, Szuma and Chiasson need to add strength and become grittier like the smallish Ferris State defenseman who are a pain to play against.
