Jake Butt ready to see Ann Arbor

Michigan's coaching staff has emphasized the tight end position in recruiting for both the 2012 and 2013 classes. One junior target that they've had their eye on since the fall is Pickerington (Ohio) North four-star Jake Butt. The 6-6, 230-pounder is ranked the No. 96 prospect in the 2013 class, according to Rivals.

He will make a trip up to Ann Arbor this weekend to check out Michigan's campus. His relationships with Michigan tight ends coach Dan Ferrigno and defensive line Jerry Montgomery led to the opportunity.

Although high school basketball season is starting to wind down - the Pick North Panthers have just one regular-season game remaining - college hoops is in full swing. When Butt makes it to Michigan this weekend, he'll see the Wolverines take on Ohio State on the hardwood.

A basketball game isn't all he's coming to town for, of course. He also wants to experience the atmosphere in Ann Arbor, and learn more about the school and football program. He'll be spending his entire Saturday taking in what the city and school have to offer.

Although Michigan is near the top of his list, he says not to expect a commitment this weekend. He wants to check out all of his options before pulling the trigger.

His top five schools list includes Michigan, Stanford, Maryland, Tennessee, and Northwestern. Butt is hoping that visits to Syracuse, Stanford, Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Virginia result in more offers - and more college options to eventually choose from.

Michigan is in strong position, and his visit to Ann Arbor should help the Wolverines stay near the top of his list. When it comes time to make a decision, they should be in the mix.
