New commitment for Blue Devils

The last month has been a difficult time for Alex Hill, a three-star offensive lineman from Slidell, Louisiana. The talented prospect has spent much of that time waiting for an offer from Duke. He recently received that offer, but his decision was much more difficult than he originally thought it would be.

The 6-foot-4, 305-pound prospect committed to Duke just a couple of hours ago on Monday afternoon, but it wasn't an easy choice.

"I had been waiting for it (the Duke offer) for like a month now," Hill explained in an interview with Devils Illustrated. "On Saturday night they (the coaches) told me they were offering. I had always planned on committing once they offered, but then some others came in and the decision was more difficult.

"The University of Illinois offered me about a week ago and all my family is up there. It was a hard decision. It came down to being around family or getting the best education possible. I still had to choose Duke."

Hill's commitment means Duke is one step closer to being done with their recruiting efforts in the Class of 2010. Ranked the No. 15 center in the nation and the No. 26 prospect in the talent-rich state of Louisiana, Hill is a physically mature young man that could compete for early playing time if he shows up in shape.

Hill was one of several prospects taking an official visit to Duke over the weekend, and he recounted that experience to Devils Illustrated.

"The visit went pretty good," he said. "I got the offer and I committed. My future is unlimited with the atmosphere at Duke. There's a lot that I'll be able to do in my life, whether it's with football or without football.

"They (the coaches) said that I impressed the Dean of Admissions. They said he fell in love with me and said that I'm a great person. I guess he controls who gets into Duke and I took him by surprise during our conversation."

Junior offensive guard Brandon Harper was Hill's host for the weekend. That seems to have also factored into Hill's decision.

"You should put down that I recommend him to be anybody's host that's visiting Duke," Hill laughed. "If Duke ever has a top recruit I would recommend that Brandon Harper be their host. As a matter of fact, everybody on that team is great."

When asked if his decision is final or if he plans on taking official visits to other schools Hill spoke loud and clear.

"I'm done with the recruiting process. I'm tired of it. The whole process became pretty stressful. I'm a Blue Devil and that's what I want."

Prior to committing to Duke, Hill had received scholarship offers from Missouri, Texas A&M, Southern Miss and a host of other schools. He had taken an official visit to New Mexico earlier in the recruiting process.
