Donnal playing in second all-star game
Earlier this month, four-star offensive lineman Andrew Donnal was in San Antonio for the U.S. Army All-American Game. Now, the future Hawkeye is in Fort Lauderdale as he prepares for Team USA vs. The World game on Saturday. For the 6-foot-7, 285-pound Donnal, it is another chance to compete against the best players around. He talks about the experience, his official visit to Iowa last week, signing day coming up, and much more.
Q: How was your official visit last weekend?
DONNAL: It was a lot of fun. I had a basketball game on Friday, so I got there Saturday morning and my host, Nolan MacMillan, really helped show me around. Getting to go there and kind of experience Iowa a little bit outside of football was good, just getting to see how it is every day. It was a big help to get a better idea of where everything is and just the average day there.
Q: Then you flew straight to Florida for this all-star game?
Q: Tell me a little bit about the game. Did it just pop up recently or have you known about it for a while now?
DONNAL: I've know for a little while that I was doing it. I've had a bunch of fun this week. It's been fun playing with all these guys. It's been a good time.
Q: After playing in San Antonio a couple weeks ago, what do you look forward to in your second all-star game?
DONNAL: It's just another chance to get to play football against some good competition. Then it's a different aspect getting to play against players from all over the world. I thought that would be a neat experience.
Q: What has the week been like for them coming to the U.S. to play football?
DONNAL: They've got to be enjoying it. It's tough with the language barrier and playing different styles, but they seem to be having fun.
