Hale is thrilled with Ohio State offer
There have been no shortage of Ohio State offers going out recently and the latest good news landed in the hands of Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove defensive tackle Joel Hale recently as the Buckeyes offered the Hoosier State star.
The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder already holds offers from some heavy hitters like Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Georgia Tech. How did Hale learn about his newest offer?
"I got an email (Monday) night about 10 p.m. from Jim Tressel and it said that they had extended me a full scholarship offer," Hale said.
Hale projects to play defensive tackle in college but is currently playing defensive end in high school. Hale is excited for the opportunity to play at the next level and even to make the move inside if he were to play in a 4-3 defensive scheme.
With double digit offers already in hand what came to mind when Ohio State jumped on the bandwagon and kicked in with an offer?
"I am keeping all of my options open and am looking at everything pretty in depth but Ohio State is just one of the universities that just sticks out in your mind," Hale said. "Whenever I heard I just really didn't believe it because I never saw myself having an Ohio State offer. I just didn't think it was possible from the beginning of my career to where I am now."
Ohio State has the benefit of being relatively close to Greenwood and Hale plans on taking advantage of that proximity by making a visit in the very near future to Columbus (Ohio).
"I am going to try and get up to Ohio State this Friday," Hale said.
What will stand out the most for Hale when it comes down to picking a school as a destination for the continuation of his football career and schooling?
"The education is the first thing for me," Hale said. "The Ohio State University has a great education. Then the championship factor of a school and Ohio State obviously brings both of those to the table. It is hard to come across something like that."
Hale doesn't plan on stretching things out in his recruitment into the early part of 2011 but don't expect him to be making any sort of rushed decision.
"It could be right before my (senior) season but it won't be any time soon," Hale said.
