Anderson gets taste of rivalry
It's hard to top the game day atmosphere of an Ohio State-Michigan game.
That's the way junior offensive lineman Ryan Anderson feels after witnessing the Buckeyes' 37-7 win over the Wolverines at Ohio Stadium on Saturday.
"It was crazy," said Anderson, a 6-foot-4, 312-pounder from Roosevelt High School in Kent, Ohio. "That is the loudest game I have ever been to. But, that's what you get with Ohio State-Michigan."
Anderson speaks from experience.
He's been to Ohio State four times as a recruit, three times this year and once last year. While he enjoyed himself on each trip, he said Saturday's experience topped all the others combined.
Prior to the game, Anderson and his father and friend all had the chance to visit with several Ohio State academic advisors and a couple members of the coaching staff, including head coach Jim Tressel.
Before heading to the field, the recruits were treated to a short film on the big rivalry. But, the best part of the day was being on the turf inside a packed stadium.
"This time walking down on the field felt different than any other time," Anderson said. "It felt more intense, I guess. I walked out and saw that the stands were almost filled and the former players were everywhere.
"It was crowded. The players seemed to be more intense and the fans were just into the game already. If it was close to the feel of a past game, I say it would be close to last year's Iowa game."
Anderson, who holds verbal offers from Pittsburgh and Toledo, said the Ohio State coaches have stayed in close contact since his first visit to Columbus last year.
On Friday, Anderson attended Pittsburgh's rivalry game with West Virginia and was at Notre Dame earlier this month for the Irish's upset of Utah.
"That was the most intense game of Pitt's I have been to," he said.
Now, with his junior season and his recruiting visits over for the year, Anderson plans to focus on his off-season conditioning program.
