Davis still focusing on title

Tampa (Fla.) Jefferson wide receiver Andre Davis hosted Texas Tech running backs coach Chad Scott on an in-home visit earlier this week. The 2011 prospect made it clear that he and Coach Scott have been working to build a close relationship.

"I've spent most of my time talking to Coach Scott and we've got a great relationship. He's a real cool dude and we have similar backgrounds," Davis said. "With him being from this area just like me, he's been able to give me a good idea of how I might adjust to heading out of state to play football. It's not something that bothers me, but he's made me feel more comfortable about it."

"He's always asking me about life outside of football and not every coach cares about that kind of stuff. He'll check in on me about my grades and my family, stuff like that. He's been a guy I've gotten to know pretty well over the last year and I think we have as good of a relationship as possible."

Davis and his Dragon teammates are a perfect 12-0 for Tampa Jefferson this year and have an upcoming date in the Class 3A Regional Finals. Because of the continuation of his senior season, Davis will continue to put off some recruiting arrangements to keep his mind focused squarely on the task at hand.

"I'm all about our team right now. We're still making a push for a state championship and we're getting closer and closer," he said. "I really haven't even been able to think a lot about recruiting lately, but I'll be making some moves on that side of things once our season is over."

Davis mentioned that aside from Texas Tech, he's been hearing from Arkansas, Florida State, Rutgers, and USF the most. He previously visited South Florida for a game, but hasn't made or scheduled any more visits to this point.

"I plan on taking some more visits really soon, but I've just got to wait and see what happens. Nothing will be decided until after I get done playing football this year."

With National Signing Day just a little over two months away, the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder feels like the process could speed up quite a bit once his season comes to an end.

"I'm wanting to take a few more visits and then start to get a better idea of which schools are really an option for me. I've got a lot of great choices right now so I'll need to look closely at them all," he said. "I know my time is getting short to decide, but I'm not going to rush into anything. I think I'll probably try and make a decision after the season, and after a few visits maybe. It won't be real soon, but I don't think I'll wait until signing day either."

Aside from Texas Tech, Davis also holds offers from Arkansas, Cincinnati, Florida State, Kansas, Miami (FL), Rutgers, South Florida, and West Virginia among others.
