Davis focused on recruitment
Fresh off a run to the state championship Tampa (Fla.) Jefferson wide receiver Andre Davis is turning his attention back to the recruiting side of things and Texas Tech finds themselves firmly in the conversation for the 2011 standout's services.
"Man the playoffs were great, and winning the championship let us enjoy it all the way to the end," Davis said. "Everyone wants to end their high school careers that way and we were lucky enough to do it. I'm just glad to have the teammates and coaches that I had, or it wouldn't have been possible. It was a lot of fun."
"I'm ready to get back to the recruiting stuff now that the season is over. I've got a lot of good options and I'm ready to start taking visits and checking them out before I make a decision. Texas Tech is in there, yeah. They've been with me from the beginning so they've definitely got my attention. I haven't really narrowed too much down yet, though."
Davis has an official visit scheduled with Tech for January 14th, as well as another with Rutgers on January 21st. Apparently he and fellow Jefferson teammate Ramik Wilson could possibly take that visit together to see the Scarlet Knights. It sounds like there is potential for something similar to happen when Davis heads to West Texas.
"I've got a really good relationship with Coach Chad Scott, and I'm definitely interested in seeing what they've got going on with their program. Me and Ramik might also take that one together too. We'll see how it works out."
The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder has not paid a lot of attention to the recruiting process until now, so he's obviously got some catching up to do in terms of narrowing down his options.
"I knew it would be crazy when the season is over. I'd say I'm pretty wide-open right now, but there are definitely some teams like Tech that I've been talking with for a while who have a little bit of a leg up," he said. "I'm probably going to take all five of my visits and make a decision pretty close to signing day. I'm looking forward to January and the trips I'll get to take. It's going to be exciting and I'm anxious to find out who is going to fit my needs best."
Aside from Tech, Davis holds offers from Arkansas, Cincinnati, Florida State, Kansas, Miami (FL), Rutgers, South Florida, and West Virginia among others.
