Harris 'surprised' by State offer
Mesquite, Texas cornerback DeVante Harris went into last week with one offer from SMU and had no idea when or who his next scholarship would come from.
But to his surprise a Southeastern Conference school would come calling when Mississippi State offered the talented junior on Thursday even without any prior contact.
"It was a surprise," Harris said. "Coach Angelo Mirando got in touch with one of my trainers, Coach (Al) Cotton, from Mississippi State. It was like a surprise that they just offered me. He gave me his number and I called him and he got on the phone and offered me. I didn't know anything about Mississippi State and didn't know they were even interested."
Harris began checking up on the Bulldogs program after the offer to find out what they are all about.
"I've done a lot of research," Harris said. "I looked up their traditions and how they do things. I really couldn't find out much about them but I looked at their roster."
The 5-foot-11, 155-pounder is already planning a trip to Starkville this spring to check out MSU up close so he can see firsthand what they have to offer.
