Big game with Bearcats on tap for Hoyas
March 5, 2010 - Georgetown has not been trending upward since the last time the Hoyas faced Cincinnati, a February 23rd tilt. In that contest John Thompson III's team not only were defeated 58-46 but lost the services of senior point guard Chris Wright, a blow to not only the team's stats - he was second in scoring, first in assists at the time - but leadership as well. A subsequent 58-51 loss to Syracuse only reaffirmed G'Town's current tenuous position.
To make matters worse, via the two losses, the Hoyas (21-8 overall, 10-7 in league) who once were challenging for a double bye in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship - afforded to the top four teams in league play - are currently anywhere between sixth and eighth. Ironically the team is joined by today's foe, Cincinnati (23-7, 10-7), and West Virginia in that logjam. A loss to the Bearcats could actually force the Hoyas to play on day one of the event, an arduous task ended for any program desiring it to win it.
