Fla receiver high on SU
As the Syracuse Orange go through spring practice the wide receivers look to be a strength of the team. With that being said the Orange are a bit heavy with juniors and seniors at the position, so they need to make sure they are prepared for the future. One receiver has recently been targeted by the Orange.
Miami Northwestern High School wide receiver Elston Lane was offered by the Orange in the last few days.
"They offered me Sunday or Monday one of those days. I was excited because it was a surprise. My coach talked to me and told me that he talked to them about me. It came through like that, so I was very excited."
Lane, 6-foot-1, 180 pounds does know a bit about Syracuse and it has him intrigues to learn more.
"I know a couple of guys that went there, Phillip Thomas is one of them. I know that they are a great academic school. Syracuse always has a great history with their football team and I pay attention to all that. It is definitely a school that I am looking into because it is an early offer and when a school gives you an early offer it means they have a high interest in you."
Right now the Orange are not the only team to offer lane as he has a few more offers.
"I have offers from SMU, Northwestern, FIU, FAU, Western Michigan, and Syracuse."
The schools that have offered are interested in Lane strictly as a wide receiver.
"All schools are looking at me for receiver. I am a big target and my game is all about making guys miss, I don't get tackled by one defender. That is the whole key to my game after making the catch you have to make something happen. That is what I feel I bring to the table over other wide receivers. It is not just about making a great catch here or there, but after the catch what are you going to do with t."
As it stands now he has made a couple visits, but he does plan to visit more in the near future.
"I just went to FIU's spring game. I do have a lot of visits planned I am headed to Florida this weekend and then I'm scheduled to go to Louisville, Tennessee, Central Florida, and South Florida."
Like a lot of prospects Lane is looking to make his decision early.
"I would like to pick a school in late June. I do not want to go into the season with all of that. I am just going to try and get the recruiting process out of the way as soon as possible."
With an early summer decision on his mind will the Orange have a chance to get a visit?
"I most definitely plan on getting up to Syracuse before I make my decision."
Last season Lane had 23 catches for 537 yards and nine touchdowns.
